FC AFC High Hopes Little Ann "Annie" put down one of her more memorable runs today and was rewarded with second place in the Open Gun Dog stake at the Pennsylvania Brittany Club. This qualifies her for amateur and open gun dog nationals in the fall.
We didn't have anything to run at the trial this weekend so we stuck Annie in the gun dog stakes to give us something to do. Keep in mind, she's nine years old, weaned a litter of pups six days ago and hasn't been off the couch since hunting season ended in December. She put down an impressive performance. You could see her start to hurt and run out of steam, then dig deep, find another gear and take off. We got behind on a piece of birdwork but she finished by taking the front from way back and swinging the far edges at the end of the course all on her own. This performance exemplified the heart and depth that make her such a special dog. Her pups have some (little) big shoes to fill.
