02. Vaccines

Below, please find Allison’s current vaccine and deworming recommendations. Your veterinarian may use a slightly different protocol. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about your veterinarian's recommendations

Puppies require vaccinations every 3-4 weeks between 7-16 weeks of age. This will result in 3 series of vaccines (7 wks, 11wks, and 15 weeks). We give the first round of vaccines to our puppies at 7 weeks. The final vaccine dose of the series needs to be between 14 - 16 weeks of age to reduce maternal antibody interference. Your puppy will require a booster vaccine at one year old, and then every 3 years thereafter.

RECOMMENDED

The core vaccines we recommend protect against canine distemper virus, canine parvovirus and canine adenovirus. These diseases are deadly and 100% preventable with vaccines.

A rabies virus vaccine must be administered before 6 months of age, and is generally done around 16 weeks. It is required by Ohio Law to be administered as a puppy and every 3 years thereafter. There are cases of Rabies virus infection in wildlife in Ohio.

For dogs with exposure to many other dogs (think field trials, kennels or dog shows) we recommend the bordetella vaccine. This is administered yearly. There are some boarding facilities that will require this vaccine every 6 months.

For dogs with exposure to ticks and standing water (most hunting dogs in the midwest) the Lyme and Leptospirosis 4-way vaccine are recommended as a puppy and once a year thereafter.

OPTIONAL

Canine influenza vaccine is not considered a core vaccine but may be required by some boarding facilities or recommended by your veterinarian.
